About the E-Bike-Tour

Where once walls, bastions, moats and earthen ramparts protected the city from attack, today Frankfurt’s green lungs run. A tour on medieval ramparts with staged park backdrops and Amazonian river landscapes in the middle of a big city.

Many historic parks with magnificent old trees have emerged from English landscape gardens, which Frankfurt families created in the 18th and 19th centuries. Where once walls, bastions, moats and earthen ramparts protected the city from attack, today runs one of Frankfurt’s green lungs. More than five kilometers long, it runs in a ring around the city center – with small ponds, water features, sculptures, monuments, green areas, flowerbeds, benches, etc.

We learn about the influence of new war and siege techniques on the creation of these green spaces and that people longed for more space in the dark and cramped city.

How were these changes possible? What developments did Frankfurt go through until the emergence of its many park landscapes? On our search for traces, we get to know Rothschildpark, Grüneburgpark, Park Niddatal, Brentanopark and Solmspark, among others – and a city with its park stories.

Would you rather be out and about in the south of Frankfurt? Or in Frankfurt’s east?
